About MaterialYards
MaterialYards is a small set of free calculators that turn measurements in feet and inches into cubic yards, tons, and bags of gravel, topsoil, mulch, sand, and concrete.
What the site does
Buying landscape material starts with the same question: how much? The answer takes a little geometry, a unit conversion, and a weight or bag size that is easy to get wrong. These calculators do that work in your browser and show each step, so you can check the result and bring a clear number to the supplier or the store.
How the numbers are made
- Volume is plain geometry: area times depth, converted to cubic feet and cubic yards.
- Weights and bag sizes are typical values from manufacturers, government agencies, and university extension services. Each calculator page lists its sources.
- Assumptions are shown. The weight per cubic yard, the extra percentage, and the bag size appear next to every result, and you can change all three.
- Prices are yours. The site does not know what material costs where you live, so it never fills in a price. Enter your supplier's quote to see an estimated total.
- Rounding is shown, not hidden. Cubic yards and tons are shown to two decimals, and a cost is worked out from those displayed amounts. Bags are always rounded up to a whole bag.
What the numbers are not
They are estimates. Real material varies from one quarry, yard, or brand to the next, and real ground is never perfectly flat. Confirm quantities with your supplier before you order, and read the terms and disclaimer.
Your privacy
Calculations run in your browser. The site does not collect what you enter. The privacy policy explains the one thing it remembers on your device, what the hosting provider sees, and how visits are counted without cookies.
